When the heel slips in the shoe and chafing begins
It often starts as a small gap in the shoe. The heel lifts slightly with each step, friction increases, and after a while, it feels warm and irritated against the skin. During longer walks, a workday where you walk and stand a lot, or when you wear new shoes, this can quickly lead to blisters and discomfort. Heel cushions for shoes are used when the fit is not quite right, especially in shoes that are slightly too large or where the heel moves too much.
✔ Reduces gaps in shoes
✔ Protects against blisters on the heel
✔ Provides soft cushioning in the heel
✔ Improves fit in oversized shoes
✔ Self-adhesive back keeps the cushion in place
How heel cushions work in shoes
The heel insert is placed at the back of the shoe where the heel rests. When the space behind the heel is filled, the up-and-down movement in the shoe decreases, which keeps the foot more stable. Less movement also means less friction between skin and shoe, which can reduce the risk of blisters.
The material consists of soft, highly elastic foam with a cotton mesh surface. It provides a combination of cushioning and grip against the heel. The self-adhesive back ensures that the cushion stays in the shoe without sliding around, even when you take off and put on the shoes multiple times during the day.
Two different thicknesses allow you to adjust how much space should be filled. The thinner variant is used when the shoe is already the right size but rubs, while the thicker variant is better suited when the shoe feels half to a full size too large.
A better choice when you want to continue using shoes that are loose
What sets this type of heel cushion apart from regular thin blister plasters is that they not only protect the skin but also improve the fit of the shoe itself. This makes them particularly useful when the problem is due to the shoe being a bit too roomy, not just that the material rubs.
For example, during walks in sneakers, work where you walk a lot on hard floors, or when you wear training shoes that feel slightly too large, a better fit can make a big difference. When the heel is held more in place, the step becomes more stable, and you avoid the feeling of the foot moving back and forth in the shoe.
